A Blessing for These Strange and Fearful Times

Hello, Beloved.

We wanted to check in with you. How are you doing? Are you worried? Perplexed? Frozen because of fear? Crippled because of anxiety? Confused how to feel? Numb? Vulnerable? We know, these are strange and wild times. So many questions and not enough answers.

As the world seemingly swells with fear, remember this—Love holds you, still.

When you are worried, Love will sit with you. When you’re fearful, Love will gently hold your hand. When you feel numb and hopeless, Love will refuse to quit on you.

Love does not abandon. It circles you, it protects you, it rests with you, it weeps with you, and it stays within and around you always.

When our bodies, our loved ones, our communities and our neighborhoods are vulnerable to forces beyond us, and when our notions of safety and security crumble, may we remember these truths. May we sing the promise of Love over our babies, over our loved ones, over our communities and over ourselves.

To those whose bodies are currently at risk: We pray that the Divine’s protective hand rests upon you. May you have a restful sleep, and may your spirit be replenished with strength and power.

To the leaders who must lead in these strange times: May you find the right words to inform, assure and protect your people. If you have to make crucial decisions on behalf of your community, may you find the courage to do what is right. May God grant you the wisdom and the light to guide you through these uncertain times.

To the healers and caretakers in our communities: May your hands—the very ones that feed, bathe, heal, and comfort us—be blessed. May you never doubt the gifts that are within you, and may they continue to sow stability and peace in us. May the love and care you show your people be extended to you as well.

To those crippled with fear and anxiety: You are not alone. You are not alone. We see you, and you are not alone. If you are too tired to hope, we will hope for you. If you are too weak to pray, we will intercede for you. If you do not know what to do, know that you do not have to remain in uncertainty by yourself.

Beloved, remember to be compassionate and gracious to your neighbors and community. And also with yourself.

Remember the most vulnerable and defenseless among you. Check in on your neighbors and your friends. Seek what you need, but not any more. Share your resources and practice kindness.

Drink water.

Wash your hands.

Rest.

Pray.

And, if you have the time and energy, practice bringing light into the seemingly dark world. Paint, sing, dance, decorate, smile, observe, or play. This is a form of resistance, too.

These are strange times. There are more questions than answers. So we will say this again, because it is the song we will continue to sing over you—our beloved community:

Love holds you.

When you are worried, Love will sit with you. When you are fearful, Love will gently hold your hand. When you feel numb and hopeless, Love will refuse to quit on you.

Love will not abandon. It circles you, it protects you, it rests with you, it weeps with you, and it stays within and around you always.

Rest well, dear one. You are not alone.
